[] As AI, high-performance computing, and heterogeneous integration continue to scale, advanced packaging is facing growing interconnect challenges across redistribution layers, IC substrates, HDI boards, silicon vias, and emerging glass-core platforms. Higher bandwidth and larger package form factors require finer wiring, smaller vias, higher fan-out density, and more reliable vertical interconnects. In this context, copper seed formation and via metallization are becoming increasingly important bottlenecks for next-generation package and substrate scaling. Conventional copper deposition technologies, including physical vapor deposition, electroless plating, and electroplating, each play essential roles in today’s manufacturing flows. However, as via structures become smaller, deeper, rougher, or higher in aspect ratio, limitations such as step coverage, liquid circulation, process uniformity, and seed-layer continuity become more difficult to manage. These challenges are especially relevant across multiple interconnect layers, including motherboard HDI PCBs, IC substrates, RDL, memory and interposer silicon vias, and Si BEOL metal, etc. This presentation will introduce Nano Copper Deposition as a solution family for AI-era interconnect scaling. The talk will cover DeepVia™ HDI for high-aspect-ratio via metallization in motherboard HDI PCBs, DS-SAP™ for resolving the trade-off between thin surface seed layers and robust via coverage in IC substrates, and other applications such as Dual Seed Damascene for fine and high-aspect-ratio damascene structures in BEOL and RDL applications, and DeepVia™ Silicon for memory and interposer silicon vias. The discussion will highlight how these approaches can support higher I/O density, improved escape routing, reduced layer-count dependency, and broader process flexibility for next-generation advanced packaging. The San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the IEEE Computer Society invites to our free and open Virtual Tech Talks (no IEEE membership required): Speaker: Mahesh Reddy Konatham ((https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.linkedin.com/in/maheshrkonatham/&sa=D&source=calendar&ust=1787541141829510&usg=AOvVaw3QwgT7-ZIIXv3T8HnICKHQ)) Title: Beyond Copilots (Multi-Agent SDLC) Abstract: While first-generation AI developer tools focused on inline code completions (Copilots), modern engineering demands autonomous multi-agent systems capable of executing end-to-end software development lifecycle (SDLC) workflows. Moving beyond passive assistance requires orchestrating specialized, collaborative agent roles—such as Architects, Coders, Reviewers, and QA Testers—that decompose complex technical requirements into verifiable, deterministic units of work. This talk provides a comprehensive architectural guide to designing, orchestrating, and governing autonomous multi-agent pipelines across the SDLC. We examine communication topologies, state management, shared context protocols (MCP), and verification harnesses that prevent error propagation. Drawing on practical patterns from high-reliability enterprise systems, full-stack microservices, and mobile platforms, we demonstrate how to build multi-agent systems that autonomously design, implement, test, and safely deploy software while keeping human engineers in the loop for high-leverage architectural decisions. Bio: Mahesh Reddy Konatham is a Senior Software Engineer at PayPal, specializing in building scalable full-stack applications, robust distributed systems, and modern mobile solutions. He holds a Master of Science in Software Engineering from San Jose State University and a Bachelor of Technology from NIT Trichy. With broad experience spanning fintech, developer platforms, and enterprise utilities, Mahesh has spent the past few years deep in the Credit and Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) domain at PayPal, architecting resilient backend services, high-throughput microservices, and customer-facing interfaces. His technical expertise spans distributed backend architectures, Android application development, React-based frontends, and cloud infrastructure. Mahesh has led key engineering initiatives in automated visual testing, performance optimization, and developer productivity across large-scale systems. Mahesh is deeply passionate about Generative AI, Agentic SDLC, Loop Engineering, and Model Context Protocols (MCPs). His current focus centers on architecting self-correcting agentic workflows, structured context protocols, and intelligent verification loops that empower engineering teams to deliver robust, enterprise-grade software with speed and reliability. Deterministic Synthesis of High-quality 2D Semiconductors: Controlling Defects, Dopants, and Polytype Realizing the potential of 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) for next-generation semiconductor technologies will require synthetic films that combine high crystalline quality with wafer-scale uniformity and precise control over electronic and optical properties. In this talk, I will present recent work from our group on precursor and reactor engineering to improve material quality while enabling control of composition, doping, and crystal structure. First, I will show how controlling precursor chemistry in solid-source CVD enables WSe2 with enhanced uniformity, low charged-defect densities, and high-performance p-type transistors. I will then discuss metal-organic CVD approaches for scalable growth of WS2, including substitutional doping, alloying, and selective formation of the ferroelectric 3R polytype with distinct nonlinear optical and valley properties. Finally, I will introduce patterned dopant sources that enable programmed lateral carrier-density profiles. Together, these results show how advances in synthesis can move 2D semiconductors beyond exfoliated laboratory specimens toward materials whose properties can be engineered during growth for future electronic and optoelectronic devices. Abstract: We review some important robust control problems for distributed parameter systems: robust stabilization, mixed sensitivity minimization, and strong stabilization (feedback stabilization by a stable controller). Computational tools are presented for finding infinite-dimensional optimal controllers. Alternative finite-dimensional controller design methods are illustrated via a benchmark example (retarded time-delay systems with finitely many unstable poles). Also, a new family of robust controllers is presented for a large class of unstable distributed parameter systems, and related open problems are discussed. Abstract: AI is changing more than how quickly work gets done. It is changing who does the work, how tasks are delegated, and how teams should be organized. As AI becomes capable of generating designs, code, analysis, documentation, and ideas in minutes, managers face a new challenge: deciding what to delegate to AI, what to keep with people, and where human judgment remains essential. In this talk, Sean Murphy explores how engineering and design managers can rethink delegation and the design of teamwork in an AI-enabled organization. Rather than simply inserting AI into existing workflows, managers need to reconsider roles, responsibilities, review processes, and collaboration. The talk will examine practical ways to divide work between people and AI, keep humans accountable for important decisions, and redesign workflows as AI capabilities continue to evolve. Attendees will leave with three practical strategies for navigating uncertainty, experimenting safely with AI, and building teams that combine the speed of AI with human experience, creativity, and judgment.
